As usual there were many caravans parked in the paddock beside the hall for several days prior to the show which organisers say proves that the shows reputation has spread throughout the caravan community.
“Although the hall filled quickly with an enthusiastic audience of regular locals and those from further a field, the crowd was down a little on previous years probably due to the extreme heat,” Jenni Moreing, secretary of the Cathcart Community Hall Committee said.
Organisers said this year’s show was very lively and full of variety both in the type of entertainment and the range of ages of the performers.
Entertainment included everything from haunting folk tunes through instrumentals, comedy, contemporary and country songs including ballads.
“We were well entertained by the many high quality artists who again generously donated their talents and time to ensure that the Cathcart community can continue to maintain and improve the Cathcart hall’s facilities,” Ms Moreing said.
“People were able to see for themselves the improvements with the new kitchen being used for the first time on Saturday night, albeit in a temporary form,” she said.
The Cathcart Hall committee said they wanted to thank all the workers and tradesman who went above and beyond to ensure that the kitchen was able to be used on the night.
Compares Jay Podger and Ernie Constance kept the show moving, both men talented artists in their own right. Behind the scenes were Wilf Giles, Brendan Tina and Bronwyn Podger while artists included Jay Podger, Ernie Constance, Geoff Johnson, Darrel and Brianna Podger-Ingram, John Edwards, Brendan Podger, Tiger and Tracey Bobbin, Michelle Russell, Rodger Baker, Maria Carmel Stevens, Gus and Sherri Olding, Graham Hampshire, Alan Neal, Vicki Walsh, Ron Milliner and Gaylene Jennings, Alan Dean and the Cathcart Girls.
The 34th Cathcart Variety Concert is on the second Saturday in February 2018.
