It was a fantastic result for the club with the women finishing on top of the ladder and minor premiers for 2017 after defeating the Narooma She-Devils 36 to 0 and following straight up with a win against the Candelo-Bemboka girls 36 to 0 as well.
The first grade Blue Heelers had already secured second place on the ladder heading into the finals and were determined to finish the round games on a high against the Narooma Devils. The final score was a solid 50 to 22 in Bombala’s favour with the lads finishing second and securing themselves a home semi-final on Sunday against Merimbula/Pambula.
It wasn’t such a good result for the Bombala Reserves after they went down to a very strong Candelo-Bemboka team 40 to nil.
The Bombala Reserves have been plagued by injury throughout the year making it extremely hard for the reigning grand finalists to find their momentum.
In their first game against against Narooma the Bombala women game out of the sheds firing, showcasing their defensive efforts and not letting the coastal girls penetrate their line at all.
The girls were patient in attack, gaining consistent field possession and the points soon started flooding in.
Point scorers were Tash Stewart who took a double; Sam Stewart, Georgie Clarke, Patrice Clear, Georgia Jones and Monique Perkins.
In their second game against Candelo-Bemboka the High Heelers kept the opposition scoreless again with outstanding defence by Keiarna Rodwell, Lucy Sellers and Abbey Kimber.
Patrice Clear and Amy Stone both scored two tries. Georgia Jones, Aimee Badewitz and Kristy Nichols all scored points.
The first grade lads were determined to finish the round with a win against the Narooma Devils.
The Bombala lineup was slightly altered with injured and resting players, which did nothing to deter their efforts and within eight minutes Wame Belolevu muscled his way over the line to convert his own try and put Bombala in the lead, six to nil.
Nick Ryan threw a great dummy and gained meters for his team before Joe Bobbin couldn’t be stopped and bagged another try for Bombala 15 minutes in.
Tyler Jones was next to go over the line and at 14 to 0 the Bombala lads were looking comfortable.
The Fijian trio were a force to be reckoned with, making some formidable runs busting open the defence.
It was captain Joe Bobbin who found the line next taking the score to 20 to nil before Narooma found Bombala napping and scored. The halftime score was 20 to six.
Narooma managed to put a few more points on the board but they couldn’t catch Bombala who won with a comfortable 50 to Narooma’s 22.
