The 11 new candidates in order of election are Bob Stewart, Lynley Minors, James (Boo) Ewart, John Last, Peter Beer, Brian Old, John Castellari, Rogan Corbett, Sue Haslingden, John Rooney and Anne Maslin.
Former mayor of the previous Bombala Council, Bob Stewart said he was going to throw his hat in the ring for the position of mayor.
“I am hopeful that I can get the numbers that will make me the first inaugural mayor of the Snowy Monaro Regional Council,” Mr Stewart said.
“When I rang around to all the new councillors to congratulate them, I also let them know that I was going to run for mayor.
“I have talked to all the councillors and two other people have indicated to me they may stand for the position.
”It will be a great honour if I am lucky enough to be elected to the position of mayor on Tuesday night,” he said.
Three of the new candidates for the new Snowy Monaro Regional Council are from the Bombala and district area. Apart from Mr Stewart, Sue Haslingden and Anne Maslin were also elected and are the only two women on council.
Sue Haslingden said she was delighted to have been elected.
“It’s quite a historic and unique event for Snowy Monaro and I believe the process will be very complicated and I am looking forward to getting on with business and making the Snowy Monaro the best place to be.
“The new council will need to be cohesive and bringing new councillors up to speed and upskilling them is going to be a huge learning curve.
“When I first got on local council understanding how local government worked was a big job.
“There is going to be a fair bit of policy review happening with three different policies and the many years of intellect that went into developing them.
“We will to need to work collaboratively,” she said.
