Bombala played Dalgety at Nimmitabel sports ground in what was described as a great day of cricket.
Bombala won the toss with captain Brad Tonks electing to bat and getting the team off to a great start, with Bombala 2-112 at drinks.
Dave Bartle took both wickets in the first session for Dalgety.
Brad Tonks and his brother Mark put on a good show scoring about 60 runs each and bringing the total to 252 off 45 overs.
Good sharp bowling by Dalgety newcomer Andrew Hopkins saw him take a five-wicket haul.
Then it was time for Dalgety to bat and they started strongly with Dave Bartle and Les Taylor taking the opening partnership to 28 before Brad Tonks bowled Taylor for 15.
Dalgety was 3-103 at drinks. Bailey Rogers was 61no while Bob Smith 33 got the score really moving until Brad Tonks, who finished with figures of 4 for 27, broke the partnership.
Dalgety was all out in the 45 over for 211.
Brad Tonks said he was very happy with the Bombala team’s first effort.
“We have got some work to do on our bowling and fielding though,” he said.
In other games in the Monaro District Cricket Association – the Cooma Cats were defeated by Jindabyne and Coffeys Hotel Cricketers defeated Peakview Jerangle (PVJ).
Next week Bombala plays Coffeys Hotel at Rotary Park, Cooma. Coffeys spokesman Nathan Thompson said it should really be a good game.
“Bombala has some excellent cricketers and it’s great to see them playing in the competition,” Thompson said.
“Brad and Mark Tonks are class batsmen for Bombala and Coffeys will be without two of their main players – Dale Cook and Isaac Hornemann who are representing the South East in the Burns Cup.
“However the Coffeys welcome back their captain Nick Moon and batsman Sam Williams,” Thompson said.
Meanwhile it appears likely Brad Tonks will be sitting out Saturday’s game as he sustained a leg injury during the weekend match against Dalgety.
Next week the Cooma Cats take on Peakview Jerangle at Nijong 2 and Dalgety will play the Jindabyne Tigers at Dalgety Showground.
