As usual Fashions on the Field sponsored by Joseph Jones Racing attracted a large number of entries.
First to step up on the stage were the under 8 junior boys with the winner being three lads – Bombala’s triplets Liam, Nash and Kobi Guthrie.
The winner of the under 8 girls was little Asha Walder who looked great in her gold racing cap.
The 8 to seventeen year old lads flexed their muscles for a chance to win their section with little Oliver coming out the winner.
Judging the contestants in the Fashions on the Field were Barb Joseph from fashion sponsors, Joseph Jones Racing and Pia Jackson from the Bombala Jockey Club.
“Contestant numbers were down this year,” Ms Joseph said.
“Next year I think we may look into introducing more age groups into the Fashions on the Field,” she said.
Winner of the under 30 men was Christian Jansen from Sydney while Kahu Kapo of Canberra took out the women’s under 30 fashions award.
Apparently Ms Kapo designed and made the dress and fascinator she wore.
In the couples it was Dave and Nicole Murphy of Craigie who won that division even though they were up against some stiff competition from other punters.
Horse trainer for 42 years, Barbara Joseph of Joseph Jones Racing told race goers that she’d been training her horses in Bombala for 42 years and it was 42 years to the day that she won her first big race in Bombala.
Ms Joseph said that she was really pleased with the Fashions on the Field and the trouble people had gone to, to dress up for the races.
“All in all it was a great day,” she said.
