Joining Caitlin receiving her award was Talia Westley from Eden Marine High School.
The award is given for their passion and outstanding achievement in the field of science. The students are nominated by their teachers.
“These students are acknowledged for their tenacity and commitment in the classroom, despite a nationwide decline of participation in school science,” a spokesperson said.
“Now in its 13th year, the awards also encourage the next generation of scientists to pursue a career in medical research.”
Caitlin’s teacher, Belinda Rodwell nominated her saying, “Caitlin is an accomplished student who consistently gives her best in all that she does.
“She has excelled in both physics and chemistry ranking first in both subjects, she also ranked first in mathematics and textiles and design.
“Caitlin’s university aspirations are to study and become a science / mathematics teacher,” Ms Rodwell said.
Dr Joshua Ho from the Victor Chang Institute presented the award saying that nurturing the future of Australian Research is vital.
“Australia has such a proud science history, and through acknowledging these young students we’re giving the next generation of scientists the opportunity to see how research can directly touch people’s everyday lives,” he said.
